Getting used to a new mattress: How to speed up the process
We know that when changing mattresses, users of the new product go through a period of adaptation that for many people can become a nuisance.
The first nights on a new mattress may not be as wonderful as you think. When we get out of an old mattress, which has often caused us pain due to its sinking and denting, we expect to sleep the first night like on a "cloud". Often this expectation actually happens and many people adapt quickly to their new sleeping place.
But when it doesn't happen on the first night?
This is also a normal situation, this initial adaptation period can comprise between 1 and 10 nights of use, in some specific cases the adaptation period can last a little longer, and it is with you in mind who are having difficulties adapting to a new mattress that we have written this article.
See some tips below:
1 - Switching from a very soft or sunken mattress to a firm mattress.
This is one of the most common and common situations, people who are dissatisfied with their old, sunken mattresses are looking for mattresses with more support and firmness.
But when it comes to sleeping, the first night can be a bit tricky, our body needs a period of adaptation. Imagine the following situation: you didn't do any physical activity for a long time and when you started again, your body felt sore.
The same thing happens with a new mattress: with an old mattress, the dents and sinks occur exactly where your body has the most weight and your body was used to them; a new mattress doesn't have these deformations, so your body may feel a little uncomfortable until it adapts to the new reality.
Our tip is: For the first few days, try sleeping with a comforter folded under the sheet and unfold it as the days go by.
2 - Changing to a mattress with the same firmness index.
Many people will ask themselves, "If I'm changing a firm mattress for another mattress with the same density, will I adapt instantly?"
Not really! When a mattress goes through a long period of use, suffering the daily action of air humidity and the mineral salts present in human sweat, the foam of this mattress begins to undergo a process of oxidation and degradation that over time loses its initial firmness.
Our tip is: Use the same tip as in the previous situation.
3 - Changing from a firm mattress to a soft one.
As strange as it may sound, changing from a firm mattress to a soft one also requires adaptation. In this case, not because of joint pain, but because of the lack of habit of sleeping on a mattress with a higher level of comfort.
Our tip is: the first few nights on your new mattress, sleep on your side, in the fetal position and cuddled up against a pillow, this will put you in the best possible position and prevent body aches.
